I had so many light bulbs going off in my head, I might as well be a Christmas tree – so many things you’re saying make sense and explain things and give me answers. This is the missing link…it connects it all together. – Nataliya
After years of sugar abstinence, and after writing a book about how to do it, I found myself humbled for breaking down and sneaking some sugar. It was raisins, actually. A whole can, all at once. And then more raisins, again, and again as I justified to myself why it didn’t really count, and why it was okay to stop white-knuckling it for a while.
I went back to sugar during a stressful time in my life, when all sorts of things seemed to be falling apart. And while I know all about diet and insulin response and healthy low carb eating, and have read just about every book on why sugar is bad for me personally and the human body generally — none of that mattered when I found myself in 2010 simply wanting comfort.
Because that’s often what it’s about with sugar or high carb binges: we eat for emotional reasons.
And sugar being especially satisfying and capable of triggering us, we may eat sugar to not feel our feelings. Or to change our feelings, to feel something else instead.
Readers of my Overcoming Sugar Addiction book will know that I lay out a careful process for kicking the sugar habit. Readers can give testament to how it’s worked for them. But dear one, I tell you now that to relax into a joyful sugar free life, there’s probably more that you’ll need to look at, eventually.
Do you think you might be ready now to get on a path to long-term healing?
Overcoming Sugar Addiction is a blueprint for how you start this journey, breaking the cravings and binges and getting to a safe place. My Becoming Binge Free audio course and companion workbook guide you further along that path. Listen to gentle audio sessions that help you look inside, and learn to care for all of yourself — beyond just the food you put into your body:
- No food charts; this is not a ‘what to eat’ program
- Six audio sessions to teach you 6 new practices (over 8 hours)
- A blueprint for thinking and feeling your way towards long-term sugar-free living
I’ve completed the ‘Becoming Binge Free’ course, and I am stunned at how deeply moved and changed I am after undertaking your program. I had no idea that simply acknowledging and beginning to care for my real, buried needs could go so far toward fostering self-love and balance and peace and ease and joy – but it has, profoundly. I will always be sincerely grateful to you.” – Mary H., England

I’ve had a sweet tooth for most of my life. In my teens, my sweet tooth morphed into bulimia, binge eating, and overeating – and the accompanying loss of self esteem.
Through a 15 year process of diving into psychology, spirituality, health, and nutrition, I’ve assembled 6 practices that create emotional healing from sugar. These practices get to the “Yes, but how?” question, translating knowledge (knowing what to do) into behavioral change (finding a way to do it.)
These 6 practices give me a joyful sugar free life, one characterized by kindness and self-love, not willpower and rigidity. Beyond any surface changes in my eating habits, what I have most gained is self-love, self-trust, and an inner sanctuary.

“When you dive under will power and self-control, what it comes down to is surrender.” That’s what Karly tells Jimmy Moore in this interview of her, talking about Becoming Binge Free on Jimmy’s Livin’ La Vida Low Carb show. Listen to this 9 minute excerpt where Karly describes a key insight that led to long-term healing of addictive patterns.
Remove the barriers that keep you from living a happy, healthy sugar free life
This do-it-yourself audio course and companion workbook offers a compassionate solution to sugar addiction that doesn’t rely on food charts, weighing and measuring, white knuckling it, will power, control, striving or anxiety.
Instead of just becoming sugar free for 5, 10 or 30 days, this course will help you make the shift and stay sugar free for good.
You probably already recognize that you need to stop eating sugar. You know you’re sensitive to it, and that once you start eating it, you can’t stop. Knowledge isn’t the problem! Where you get stuck is the how – the stuff in your head that keeps you from doing it.
Your work is very, very good in that it seems to touch all the “problems” and “resistances” we encounter, as well as gently encouraging us to move past them. I have already appreciated the HUGE shift. I am have a major CLICKING experience….I’m so glad I made the decision to get the program.” – Heather B., Washington
How it works
These practices soothe the emotional brain, lower stress and anxiety, and soften shame, three triggers that lead to sugar bingeing. As you remove the blocks that are keeping you in sugar, and rest in this newfound safety, you’ll find that you can stick to your low sugar or sugar free diet without “white knuckling” it.
The result is a shift in your behavior. You can care for yourself without sugar. You’re more in tune to your needs. You’re more resilient – you can cope with stress without a candy bar. You’ll even lose your fear of sugar cravings.
While freedom from sugar bingeing is important, you can also expect to feel:
- greater self compassion, self love, and self esteem
- less perfectionism, all or nothing thinking, and anxiety
By doing this work, you can experience a gentle, but powerful shift: having your behaviors with food, your body, and sugar arise from a space of reverence, love and care rather than control, anxiety or mental obsessing. It makes all the difference…
“I just can’t get over the fact that I have given up sugar. It’s so nice to feel in control of this part of my life, after suffering from the shame of the addiction for so long. I truly feel transformed, and it is opening up my life in such a bright new way. ” – Leslie D., California
